Parish Baptism Policy
A new baby in the family! How exciting! The first step in preparing for Baptism is to call the parish office @ 709-944-2289. Parents and at least one godparent are required to participate in Baptism Preparation. In our parish, sessions are offered approximately on a monthly basis from September to June. Please note: there are no summer sessions.
Each Baptism Preparation session begins with Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday in the Basilica, and continues after Mass for about 75 minutes. Since the role of godparents is to assist the parents in raising the child in the Roman Catholic faith, Canon Law states that to serve as a godfather or godmother, the following conditions must be met:

Since the role of godparents is to assist the parents in raising the child in the Roman Catholic faith, Canon Law states that to serve as a godfather or godmother, the following conditions must be met:
- to have the aptitude and intention to serve in the function of godparent
- to be at least 16 years of age
- to be a Catholic who has received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist
- a baptized non-Catholic can serve with a Catholic godparent but will act as a Christian witness
- for a Catholic godparent, we require a copy of his/her Baptism and Confirmation certificates
- for a non-Catholic, baptized Christian witness, we require a copy of his/her Baptism certificate
